Darko

Darko is 50 years old, working as a Physical Education teacher in an Elementary School. In his free time, he enjoys writing and making music. He has published a book that combines history and present-day rock music and is currently working on his second book.

Darko jokingly says that he’d love to see the original lineup of the Sex Pistols, when they were young, playing on the main square of Belgrade. The Serbia he envisions is a country with a strong socio-economic system. ‘I would have the Sex Pistols play their song “No Future” on the main square of Belgrade when they were young and full of their original punk energy, just to convey the message of what lies ahead in the future, or rather, the lack of it. But all joking aside, I believe we lack a system that regulates people’s behavior, their social progression, their assumption of responsible roles, and eligibility criteria for those roles. If we establish a stronger system, we could secure a better future.’

Darko appreciates the natural beauty and geography of Serbia. ‘Geographically, Serbia is in an excellent location. We have mountains with immense potential for development, fertile land, and our locally grown fruits and vegetables are exceptionally flavorful.’

One of Serbia’s challenges is the migration from rural areas to large cities. ‘During the Communist era, there was a significant influx of people from the countryside into the cities, which was a major mistake in the industrialization process. It depopulated most of our villages. Although there’s still potential in rural areas, it remains underutilized. Industrialization led to the migration of villages into cities, bringing with them rural habits and significantly altering the value systems of urban areas. This resulted in a loss of our rural communities, and we essentially transplanted rural life into the cities, complete with chickens, pigs, and other farm animals. This unsustainable model eventually led to the collapse of the industrial sector and left behind abandoned fields, orchards, vineyards, and more.’

Darko is an athlete, musician, and writer with a passion for rock music. He enjoys the company of people who share his hobbies and loves teaching. At 50, he has no qualms about learning from younger individuals who can share their knowledge and energy with him.
